Mary Ann Baker is a designer/artist based north of San Francisco. Her extremely broad work experience includes extensive art design and product development in portable lighting, light fixtures, designer furniture, dinnerware, housewares, 3-D sculpted ceramics and resins, glass, metal, wood and paper products.
Although traditionally trained in the arts with a BFA in Industrial Design from UCLA, She utilizes 3 dimensional computer aided modeling exclusively to create all designs, enabling accurate visualization and refinement from all views of the proposed design. The 3-D process also streamlines the production process.
In addition to over 3 decades of product design using all types of materials and media, her experience includes the oversight and management from the ground up a 12,000 square foot creative commercial building in West Los Angeles. She conceptualized and managed all aspects of the new building. As part of this project she designed and oversaw the construction and installation of a sculptural gate entrance that required a full juried approval process by the Los Angeles Arts Council. The dimensions of the entrance sculpture are 23’ x 12’. Turner & Taylor fabricated and installed the gate.
After decades of designing for the larger market place she decided to embrace design work for the soul. So in 2007 she began her sculptural design work which has resulted in the Loveland Sculpture in the Park 2008 juried show, Big Rock Garden 2008 juried show, Bellingham, WA, Redwood City Sculptural Bird Bath competition semi-finals, the Yosemite 2008 semi-finals. Able to design for many different looks and techniques, she understands fabrication and installation and how designs must work with their community and environment.
